Le Voyage dans la Lune, 1902

One of the first films to be mentioned in the magazine, in Christine Mohanna’s article ‘A One-sided Story: Women in The Movies’. Mohanna writes that the film’s presentation of women renders them ‘stationary, winking temptations, not quite real and not quite attainable (Vol. 1 No. 1, p. 7). This is at odds with the active roles of the male characters, ‘scientists and adventurers who aim for the moon.’
